"Between the Lines"
Book Review
Thanks to Hawthorn and Aster for this free copy of “Between the Lines” by Tracey Magruder.
Everyone wants to believe in love at first sight, right? Or those pivotal breath-taking moments that you remember forever?
So of course I had to read author Magruder’s debut novel which had some of my favorite fiction tropes:
- Sadie is a very successful book editor in NY, breaking off a toxic relationship
- Close friend (and boss) Jess sends Sadie to small English village to work with prickly author Corbyn since his book manuscript is overdue due to writer’s block
- Corbyn was in a car accident that left him physically and emotionally scarred
- Sadie is learning to rediscover her fortitude, self-pride, and love of writing
It’s delightful, charming, and so sweet and tender. It kept reminding me of “Beauty and the Beast” and maybe some “Pride and Prejudice” - two of my absolute favorites.
And author Magruder’s character development is so special and realistic. The slow-building of relationships based on mutual respect is heartwarming.
I look forward to reading Magruder’s next work!
