This book was an introspective journey into fear in all its facets, and I’ll explain.
Weaving Arabian folklore of djinns and vengeful female monsters, a serial killer is hideously murdering men in Layla’s village, leaving hoofprints behind.
As a child, Layla wants to be independent and she’s both fascinated and terrified by the idea of a female monstress. She wonders what it’s like to defy expectations and be so powerful.
The adults impose strict curfews and restrictions on the children to protect them, but the children feel imprisoned and punished for the violence committed by adults. And they know that the adults can’t keep them safe, so they grow to adulthood living under a curtain of fear and mistrust.
And the serial killer keeps striking...
